Esordio vincente per Flavio Cobolli sulla terra battuta dell’Atp 250 di Ginevra: il giovane azzurro ha sconfitto il russo Aslan Karatsev (numero 82 al mondo) guadagnandosi il secondo turno del torneo.

L’incontro, andato in scena a partire dalle 15:20 circa, ha visto il tennista romano imporsi in due set col punteggio di 7-5, 6-1 maturato in meno di un’ora e mezza (1 h e 27 minuti). Ecco come è andata in sintesi e chi sarà il prossimo avversario di Flavio.

Pronti via, il match è contrassegnato da una breve fase di studio abbastanza lottata ma orfana di chance per strappare. Poi a rompere il ghiaccio ci pensa Karatsev nel terzo game: il russo spinge con il rovescio e costringe Cobolli a concedere una palla break; qualche istante dopo la concretizza, capitalizzando un errore dell’azzurro proprio con il rovescio.

Incassato il colpo, però, Flavio si rende protagonista di una reazione veemente che lo porta ad inanellare quattro giochi consecutivi e sul punteggio di 5-2. Sembra fatta, ma ecco la contro-reazione di Karatsev che riesce a riagguantare la parità sul 5-5, annullando peraltro cinque set point al servizio nel decimo game.

Parziale lottatissimo ed entusiasmante, il cui epilogo più logico sarebbe al tie-break. Ma la svolta, alla fine, si registra nel dodicesimo game, quando Cobolli si procura altri due set point in risposta e Karatsev stavolta va fuori giri con il rovescio, decretando il 7-5 in favore del classe 2002 nostrano.

Alla ripresa si capisce quasi immediatamente che qualcosa è cambiato: Cobolli gioca più sciolto e appare rinfrancato dalla conquista della frazione, mentre Karatsev cala vistosamente di precisione ed intensità. Il tutto si traduce in un netto 6-1 – figlio di due break arrivati nel secondo e nel quarto game – che non lascia spazio ad ulteriori commenti.

Al netto di un paio di passaggi a vuoto, Flavio ha offerto un’ottima prestazione: i suoi numeri ci raccontano di un 72% di punti vinti con la prima di servizio, di un 57% di punti vinti con la seconda, di un 72% di punti vinti sulla seconda dell’avversario e di 18 colpi vincenti a fronte di soli 4 errori non forzati.

Superato l’ostacolo Karatsev, Cobolli – che oggi ha festeggiato un nuovo best ranking alla piazza numero 56 – affronterà al secondo turno lo statunitense Ben Shelton, 15esima forza del circuito maschile e quarta del tabellone. Un big match che si prospetta molto combattuto e all’insegna di un copione offensivo da ambo le parti. Insomma, un appuntamento da non perdere.
