Lo straordinario 2023 condotto da Jannik Sinner ha portato appassionati ed addetti a lavori a porsi dinanzi ad una domanda: dove deve migliorare l’altoatesino per trovare la sua definitiva consacrazione nell’olimpo del tennis? Essendo questo sport ricco di varabili (alcune anche fuori controllo), non è facile dirlo con precisione. Ma c’è un dato che più di tutti ci permette di dare una risposta soddisfacente – o quanto meno attendibile – a tale interrogativo.

Sinner e il 2023, il dato che stona in mezzo a tanta meraviglia

Sinner ha condito il suo 2023 con 64 vittorie, tradottesi in 4 titoli su 7 finali raggiunte, nonché nel best ranking di numero 4 al mondo. Specialmente nella parte finale della stagione, l’azzurro ha mostrato miglioramenti fisici, tecnici e tattici che gli hanno consentito di battere tennisti del calibro di Daniil Medvedev e Novak Djokovic. Il serbo addirittura due volte nel giro di dieci giorni tra Atp Finals e Coppa Davis. Insomma, Jannik è in rapida ascesa e il 2024 si prospetta un anno decisivo ai fini dell’ultimo step che conduce al vertice.

Come vi abbiamo anticipato poc’anzi, c’è però una nota complessivamente negativa nella stagione del classe 2001 tirolese, quella relativa al rendimento offerto nei tornei del Grande Slam. Sinner, infatti, rappresenta soltanto la nona forza della speciale graduatoria che tiene conto dei punti accumulati nei quattro Major giocati durante il 2023.

Nel 2024, Sinner, oltre a vantare maggiore esperienza e sicurezza, godrà in Australia dello status di quarta testa di serie e ciò dovrebbe garantirgli – teoricamente – un tabellone non proibitivo fino ai quarti di finale. Dunque già ci sono i presupposti per ottenere a Melbourne un bottino migliore rispetto agli ottavi raggiunti lo scorso gennaio. Dovessero proseguire le cose per il verso in cui ci auguriamo, lo stesso discorso varrà per i restanti tornei in calendario; e tale fattore, alla lunga, potrebbe fare tutta la differenza del mondo.
