Jannik Sinner sta chiudendo il 2023 in maniera incredibile. Il giovane italiano ha alzato al cielo la scorsa settimana il titolo all’Atp500 di Vienna e ha scavalcato Novak Djokovic e Carlos Alcaraz in una speciale classifica.

La speciale classifica contro i top5

Sinner è arrivato all’anno della consacrazione. Eppure, il 2023 era iniziato con lui a lottare per rimanere nella top20 del ranking Atp e con i risultati che fino a febbraio stentavano ad arrivare. Poi la fiducia è iniziata a crescere dopo febbraio, prima con la finale all’Atp500 di Rotterdam (dove ha sconfitto il primo top5 in stagione, Stefanos Tsitsipas), poi con la prima finale in carriera al masters1000 di Indian Wells (sconfitto Taylor Fritz, all’epoca numero 5 del mondo) e la seconda (dopo quella del 2019) al masters1000 di Miami (sconfitto in semifinale Carlos Alcaraz, all’epoca numero 1 del mondo).

In quel momento Jannik stava bene, ma la prosecuzione della stagione sulla terra rossa ha visto più luci che ombre. Al masters1000 di Montecarlo sembrava tutto in discesa prima della sconfitta in semifinale con Holger Rune. Agli Internazionali d’Italia e al Roland Garros, invece, prestazioni horror l’hanno fatto uscire di scena agli inizi dei tornei.

La svolta, inaspettatamente, è arrivata a Wimbledon, quando Jannik ha raggiunto per la prima volta le semifinali e da lì ha avuto una nuova ripartenza, culminata con il successo al masters1000 di Toronto. Un’eliminazione cocente al quarto turno dello US Open con Alexander Zverev sembrava aver spento di nuovo la luce, che si è riaccesa improvvisamente nelle ultime settimane.

Prima è arrivato il successo all’Atp500 di Pechino (sconfitti tra semifinale e finale il numero 2 del mondo Alcaraz e il numero 3 Daniil Medvedev) e la scorsa settimana quello all’Atp500 di Vienna (superati il numero 5 del ranking Andrey Rublev e lo stesso Medvedev, sempre al numero 3).

Con queste ultime partite, il numero di successi contro i top5 in stagione arriva a quota sette e pone Sinner al primo posto nella speciale classifica. Dietro di lui ci sono Djokovic fermo a cinque successi e Alcaraz a quattro.
